South American carrier TAM and recent American Airlines merger partner US Airways have both left the Star Alliance group of airlines and joined oneworld.
The move by TAM comes after its partnership with existing member LAN to form the LATAM Airlines Group was finalised last year, while American Airlines was a founding member of oneworld.
The move is the single biggest expansion of the group since it was founded in 1999, and has effectively expanded the airline group’s capacity by 20 per cent.
