Queen Elizabeth has formally opened the newly refurbished Terminal 2 at London Heathrow Airport.

The terminal re-commenced operations on June 4, and will become the home of the Star Alliance group of 23 airlines. It has been dubbed ‘Terminal 2: the Queen’s Terminal’ in recognition of her opening it.

So far United Airlines, Air Canada, Air China and ANA have commenced operations at T2, and the remaining airlines, including Air New Zealand, will have moved across by November.

“It is terrific to see this new terminal coming to life as our Heathrow home after so many years of careful planning and construction,” Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance said in a statement. “We are honoured that Her Majesty the Queen has lent her name to this fantastic new facility which will deliver an excellent service to Star Alliance customers at this major hub.”
