Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport has completed the last key step to accepting regular public transport services following certification from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
QantasLink is due to start services to Australia’s newest airport on November 17 with direct flights from Sydney, while Regional Express is scheduled to operate to Wellcamp from January 1 2015 after winning five regulated route contracts from the Queensland government.
The airport was built by construction and logistics group Wagner Global Services and the company said in a statement Wellcamp would become a “secure” facility on November 10.
Wagners chairman John Wagner said he was thrilled to have Wellcamp classified by CASA as a certified aerodrome.
“This is the first public airport to be built in Australia in 50 years, so it was particularly important for us as first-time airport developers to work closely with CASA to meet their stringent requirements,” Wagner said.
“To have such an important component of the project ticked is a fantastic outcome and a credit to those who have been involved in the project on all levels.”
