written by WOFA | March 24, 2015

Darwin Airport has been recognised for its work in attracting new airline services to the Northern Territory with a Routes Airport Marketing Award for the Asian region.

Northern Territory Airports (NTA) director for commercial and aviation development Jim Parashos said the award recognised the work the airport has done on improving domestic and international air links in the NT, noting new services to Darwin from the likes of Silkair, Malaysia Airlines, Indonesia AirAsia and Philippine Airlines.

And more recently, Virgin said it would launch new from Darwin-Alice Springs-Adelaide flights due to begin on March 30.

“In terms of future growth aspirations, we are now exploring options to better serve markets in New Zealand and North Asia, including China.”

The airport received the award, which is judged by airlines and recognises the marketing services provided by airports, at the Routes Asia event in Kunming, China.

NTA is the operator of both Darwin and Alice Springs airports.

Good to hear Darwin is expanding services to Asia and soon a new link to Alice Springs. I onlhy hope the Airport Terminal can cope because the last time I was there in 2013 it looked like a shoddy cow shed.
