Airbus awarded RAAF surveillance sensors contracts

written by WOFA | August 19, 2015

Airbus Defence and Space has received two contracts worth about $200 million from the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) to equip and support nine military and civil/military airfields in Australia with surveillance sensors, enhancing the air traffic control capabilities of the Royal Australian Air Force.

Under the AIR 5431 Phase 2 Fixed Defence Air Traffic Control Surveillance Sensors project, ten ASR-NG next-generation airport surveillance radar systems are being provided, the company stated. Delivery of nine complete systems and one training system is expected by the end of 2020.

“ASR-NG provides outstanding performance for wide-area surveillance around airbases, as well as safe guidance of individual aircraft during takeoff and landing,” said Thomas Muller, head of the Electronics business line at Airbus Defence and Space.
