LAN has commenced Boeing 787-9 services to Sydney via Auckland.

The oneworld alliance member and Qantas codeshare partner debuted the smaller 787-8 Dreamliner on its Santiago de Chile-Auckland-Sydney service in April.

On Friday, LAN operated the larger 787-9 to Sydney for the first time. LA801, operated by CC-BGA, touched down at Sydney Airport just before 0800 local time. The Dreamliner was on the ground for a little over two hours before taking off as the reciprocal LA801 bound for Auckland.

The 787-9, which is configured with 313 seats (283 economy and 30 business) represents an extra 66 seats compared with the airline’s 787-8s, which have 247 seats (217 economy and 30 business).

LAN has four 787-9s in its fleet, with a further six on order.
