Rockwell Collins delivers first Gen III F-35 helmet

Rockwell Collins and Lockheed Martin have marked delivery of the first Gen III F-35 Helmet Mounted Display System, which is intended to allow pilots to ‘look through’ the F-35 Lightning II airframe.

Rockwell Collins stated that the Gen III helmet, which includes an improved night-vision camera, improved liquid-crystal displays, automated alignment and software improvements, is set to be introduced in low-rate initial production (LRIP) Lot 7 next year.

Rockwell Collins ESA Vision Systems also developed the current second-generation helmet.
