Air New Zealand has appointed an experienced sporting administrator and qualified accountant to the board.
The airline said on Thursday Dame Therese Walsh would take her seat at the board table on May 1, bringing to seven the number of directors on the board.
Currently, Walsh is on the board of the New Zealand stock exchange, NZX, and is also a director at ASB Bank and deputy chair at TVNZ.
Previously, Walsh was chief operating officer of Rugby World Cup tournament held in New Zealand in 2011 and was the head of New Zealand for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, which was jointly hosted by Australia and NZ.
The qualified accountant’s career highlights also included being a member of the strategic risk and resilience panel of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
“Her obvious strengths and experience across private and public enterprises and exposure to major tourism events combine with a deep passion for New Zealand’s success. She will be a valuable addition to our team,” Air NZ chairman Tony Carter said in a statement.
