Training company Aviation Australia and aircraft sales and support business Hawker Pacific aim to expand their partnership to overseas markets in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

The pair has signed a Teaming Agreement to “formalise their future partnering on significant international and domestic aircraft maintenance related training projects”.

The agreement extends the relationship between Aviation Australia and Hawker Pacific, which included Air Niugini sending its engineering cadets to Cairns for two years of on-the-job training, including working on aircraft in an European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 145 facility.

Hawker Pacific chief executive Doug Park said the tie-up with Aviation Australia was a great strategic fit and was confident of a long and mutually beneficial partnership.

“The teaming program between Aviation Australia and Hawker Pacific has been working extremely well for both parties so it is timely, opportune and a natural progression to broaden the program scope for the wider aviation markets of in the Asia Pacific and Middle East,” Park said in a statement.

“In both the civil and military sectors we can package up the theoretical and practical training elements of avionics and mechanical technician training and then take it to the customers preferred location.

“This initiative offers great flexibility coupled with a compressed training pipeline.”

Aviation Australia, which was established by the Queensland Government in 2001 and trains avionics and mechanical technicians, has provided more than 60 apprentices for Hawker Pacific’s Cairns facility over the past 10 years.

Its chief executive Bill Horrocks said he was excited about partnership with Hawker Pacific.

“Aviation Australia’s International Diploma program is a great example of Australian expertise being exported globally and we see this program growing in the future as this enhancement to the training is marketed globally,” Horrocks said.
