Safeskies Australia president emeritus George Alfred “Peter” Lloyd has been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday awards with admission to the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), the nation’s highest civil honour.
Lloyd was recognised “for eminent service to the aviation industry, particularly to the advancement of air safety in Australia, through leading roles with national and international aeronautical organisations, and airsport associations”, the Queen’s Birthday Honours list published on Monday said.
The aviation veteran is also the honorary Governor of the Australian Air Sport Confederation and President of Honour of the world air sport controlling body, Federation Aeronautique Internationale.
He was previously awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1990 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1964.
Lloyd, who is now blind, celebrated his 95th birthday with a tandem skydive over Canberra in December 2015.
