On your mark. Get set. Go! Sydney Airport’s Runway Run 2016 (Sydney Airport/Kurt Ams)

Passengers arriving and departing Sydney Airport were seeing red on Saturday and it had nothing to do with long queues or flight delays.

Instead, it was the airport’s second annual Runway Run, an event to raise money for Ronald McDonald House charities that formed a sea of red on the airfield.

Some 115 member of the public, athletes from the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens and Greater Western Sydney Giants’ womens AFL side and Sydney Airport staff and families took to the airfield in red shirts and red wigs for a sprint with a difference surrounded by aircraft of all sizes.

Sydney Airport said the event, which was open to the public for the first time in 2016, raised $11,500.

More information on Ronald McDonald House Charities and Sydney Airport’s Christmas giving appeal can be found on the charity’s website.

Looking carefully at the photos, I’m pretty sure they’re only on the tarmac in the GA/Corporate Aircraft parking area.
