Emergency slides deployed after cockpit fire on Bombardier CRJ-900LR

A Bombardier CRJ-900LR jet was forced to return to San Francisco on 1 March after smoke emerged from the cockpit and toilet.

Some the 71 passengers on the Air Canada Express flight to Vancouver exited the aircraft via the emergency slides, while others jumped to the ground from the wing exits.

No injuries were reported. Passengers were transported to the terminal.

Shortly after take-off, the flight crew of AC8839 noticed smoke in the cockpit, while cabin crew also reported smoke in one of the lavatories.

The Air Canada flight returned to San Francisco International Airport and landed safely.

The US Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
