Qatar Airways trials in-flight virtual reality

written by Sandy Milne | March 4, 2020

Qatar Airways is set to trial a new virtual reality entertainment system across select transcontinental flights.

The Doha-based airline has partnered with Inflight VR to trial the entertainment system across select transcontinental flights.

Qsuite and business class passengers travelling from the Qatari capital to London (aboard the QR007 flight) or Singapore (QR944) will be treated to complimentary headsets trialling the technology.

Moritz Engler, chief executive of Inflight VR, which has created the system, said, “We are excited to have the opportunity of working with Qatar Airways.

“They have continued to put the customer first and remain a game-changer in the aviation industry, proving time and again why they are masters of their craft.”

While new release films will form the bulk of the proposed entertainment package, Inflight VR’s software in the past has included explorable naturescapes and virtual travel to cities such as New York, Dubai and Hong Kong.

Inflight VR has rolled out the software across travel industry giants like FlixBus, Iberia and Star Alliance.

The Qatar Airlines trial commenced in mid-February.

Late last year, Qatar partnered with Facebook to launch a new augmented reality experience.

The interactive football game allowed users to connect with the brand directly through the social media platform, without requiring installation.
