Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines has announced that it would retire three of six Boeing 767 jets in its fleet.
The remaining three 767s will be retired by 2022 along with the seven A319-100 aircraft. The airline had announced its phase-out plans for 18 Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft last year, of which four already left the fleet.
The three retired Boeing 767 jets are 28 years old on average. Austrian plans to go on its post-pandemic operations with a relatively younger fleet.
Austrian currently has around 80 aircraft in its fleet and plans to reduce the number of aircraft in its active fleet to 60 by 2022.
Last week, the carrier announced that it extended the scheduled flight suspensions until mid-May due to the travel restrictions. Austrian doesn’t expect a return to pre-corona levels before 2023.
Another Lufthansa Group subsidiary, Lufthansa Airlines, decommissioned its entire A340-600 fleet, alongside some A380s and Boeing 747s.
