British Airways stored its 11 Airbus A380 jets at the Châteauroux Marcel Dassault Airport in France because of a lack of space at its base at London Heathrow.
The planes are likely to stay there for some time because of the pandemic that hit the global travel industry severely.
A week after the arrival of the first five British superjumbos at the Châteauroux Marcel Dassault Airport, the International Airlines Group (IAG) subsidiary carrier sent six more A380 jets to join them. The airport even released a bizarre video showing the unusual sight.
“We have been in negotiations for several weeks with British Airways for the storage of its planes in Châteauroux and we won the contract,” said Marcel Dassault Airport director Didier Lefèvre.
The planes are accompanied by mechanics with all the necessary storage equipment. A taxiway was closed to accommodate the 11 giant aeroplanes.
British Airways has 12 Airbus A380s in total. The 12th A380 registered G-XLEG has been in Manila in the Philippines for a month for scheduled maintenance.
