Extraordinary CCTV images have shown strong winds shove a Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 towards a parked Airbus A350 at Hamad International Airport, causing minor damage to both planes.
The stationary 787 initially turned 90 degrees to the left as a result of the storms and then moved forward. Finally, the plane made perpendicular contact with the A350’s right forward fuselage.
Thunderstorms affected Doha on 30 April. The wind-speed reached up to 40 knots from the south-east, according to METAR data from Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways said the 787 had been “parked securely” and chocked in accordance with guidelines from the aircraft maintenance manual.
According to images circulating on social media, the Boeing 787-8 that was involved in the incident was A7-BCT. The registration of the Airbus A350 is unconfirmed.
