The Mitsubishi Aircraft is studying the SpaceJet regional jet program’s flight test data to prepare for a potential flight return.
A company spokesperson has confirmed that the initiative to restructure the development program continues on the ground.
Engineers have collected data from 3,900 hours of flying that was conducted before the test flights were ceased due to the financial issues. The manufacturer closed the main flight-testing base at Moses Lake, Washington.
The data is now being reviewed and analysed according to goals and expectations of the program.
The Japanese planemaker aims to ensure to make the most efficient plan to achieve type certification when flight-testing is resumed. A specific date has not been revealed yet by Mitsubishi Aircraft.
“After we complete our restructuring, we will rebuild the plan to achieve type certification. Any personnel changes being made as part of our reorganisation are aimed at building an appropriate organisational structure to support our new direction and focus, and to realign resources to help us endure this crisis,” said the company representative.
In the ruined market of commercial aircraft, however, there is little interest in a new jetliner.
