A Sriwijaya Air 737 has lost contact with air traffic control after reportedly falling more than 10,000ft in one minute into the Java Sea, north of Jakarta.
Indonesia’s search and rescue agency has confirmed that the country’s aviation authorities have lost contact with 26-year-old aircraft, and a photo has emerged on Twitter apparently showing the debris.

Flightradar24 has verified the reports and recorded that the 737-524, PK-CLC msn 27323, recorded a highest altitude of 10,900 feet and a last recorded altitude of just 250 feet.

The aircraft had departed Jakarta at 2:36pm on 9 January as flight SJ182 travelling to Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
