Volansi to expand drone presence in Australia after Quickstep deal

written by Adam Thorn | January 20, 2021

Volansi DroneUS-based drone logistics company Volanski has signed a deal with Australian carbon fibre composites manufacturer Quickstep to expand its presence in the Australian commercial and defence drone market.

The memorandum of understanding will also include a commitment to discuss proposals for Volansi to use Quickstep’s AeroQure manufacturing process to create drones.

Quickstep employs more than 250 people across its Australian bases at Bankstown Airport in Sydney, Geelong in Victoria as well as a representative office in Houston, Texas.

The business’ chief executive, Mark Burgess, said, “Expanding our presence in the unmanned sector is a key element of Quickstep’s growth strategy.

“We are excited by this opportunity to build our relationship with Volansi, who have already established credibility in the Advanced Air Mobility market with their mature platform range.

“This is aligned to our plan for on-going expansion across the aerospace manufacturing and services markets and we look forward to bringing Volansi’s Aircraft to Australia soon.”

Volansi is known for innovative drone deliveries such as carrying temperature-sensitive medicines in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico after hurricanes Maria and Florence. The business has also launched a commercial healthcare drone delivery project in North Carolina.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Volansi,” said Hannan Parvizian, Volansi’s co-founder. “This MOU will allow us the opportunity to combine our depth of industry knowledge with Quickstep’s composite component expertise to grow our market presence in Australia as well as the Asia-Pacific region.”

The news comes months after Volansi completed a $50 million funding round.

  • This MOU will enable Quickstep to gain valuable foothold within the drone industry. The sooner Quickstep starts building complete advanced carbon fibre drones the better, they are the industry experts in engineered carbon fibre and this coupled with Volansi is such a value added package that will provide the norm for future drone production.
