Emirates SkyCargo has announced an order for five additional Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft, doubling its order book to 10 of the twin-engine freighters.

The deal will increase Emirates’ total Boeing widebody aircraft orders to 245, including the 10 777 Freighters.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, said: “Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially, further amplified by Dubai’s Economic Agenda which aims to double foreign trade and reinforce the city’s position as a global trading hub.”

The new order will boost Emirates SkyCargo’s main deck cargo capacity by 30 percent by 2026, growing its freighter fleet to 17 aircraft including 777 Freighters, 777 converted freighters and 747 Freighters.

Sheikh Ahmed added that the airline will conduct a full assessment of its future freighter fleet, reviewing all aircraft options to respond to evolving market demands.

The Boeing 777 Freighter can fly 9,200 kilometers and carry 102 metric tons of freight, more than any other twin-engine cargo jet.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “We are honored that Emirates SkyCargo, renowned for operational excellence and innovation, has once again selected the Boeing 777 Freighter to extend the reach of its global network.”

Boeing provides more than 90% of worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, with the 777 Freighter being its best-selling freighter model with over 265 deliveries to date.

The order reflects Emirates SkyCargo’s confidence in air freight demand and its strategic growth plans to meet increasing cargo volumes through Dubai.
