Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has reported robust passenger and cargo growth for June 2024, with passenger numbers up 9.7% year-on-year to nearly 3.2 million.
The Group, which includes Singapore Airlines and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, saw passenger capacity increase by 11.0% compared to June 2023.
Singapore Airlines’ passenger load factor was 87.1%, while Scoot achieved 88.7%, resulting in a Group passenger load factor of 87.4%. This represents a slight decrease of 3.2 percentage points from the previous year.
Cargo operations showed significant improvement, with the load factor rising 6.4 percentage points to 58.0%. Cargo loads increased by 24.9% year-on-year, outpacing capacity expansion of 11.0%.
SIA attributed the strong performance to robust e-commerce demand, spillover from sea freight disruptions, and port congestion.
During June, SIA and Scoot launched new services to London (Gatwick) and Sibu respectively.
By the end of June, the Group’s passenger network covered 125 destinations in 36 countries and territories. SIA served 78 destinations, while Scoot served 69.
The airline cited mid-year school holidays in Singapore and the summer travel season as factors supporting the strong demand across all route regions.
SIA continues to expand its Australian operations, with over 150 weekly flights from seven cities across the country.
The airline has received several accolades in 2024, including being named one of Fortune Magazine’s 50 most admired companies globally and winning multiple Skytrax World Airline Awards.
