The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced a new partnership with Thrust Carbon to expand the distribution network for its IATA CO2 Connect emissions calculations.
The agreement, finalised during IATA’s World Sustainability Symposium, will commence in October 2024.
Frederic Leger, IATA’s Senior Vice President Commercial Products and Services, said the partnership aims to meet the corporate travel sector’s need for accurate and comparable CO2 emissions calculations.
“By working with Thrust Carbon, we will respond to this important need with calculations based on actual operational data provided by a growing community of airlines,” Mr Leger said.
IATA CO2 Connect emissions calculations use a globally accepted standardised methodology based on airline operational fuel burn data. Thrust Carbon will process these calculations to meet their individual clients’ needs.
Kit Aspen, Founder of Thrust Carbon, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“As a result of our collaboration, our corporate customers can now have easier and wider access to the CO2 Connect methodology, including their data flowing in and out of every leading travel management company and expense platform,” Mr Aspen said.
The partnership is expected to enable more consistency for customers and the ability to accurately plan carrier and route changes to help meet reduction goals.
Thrust Carbon’s client base primarily covers the corporate travel sector, which will incorporate these calculations into flight selection processes and use them for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) monitoring and reporting.
The collaboration aims to achieve greater transparency and sustainability in the aviation industry by providing more accurate and standardised emissions data.
