written by Newsdesk | January 22, 2025

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group carried a record 3.6 million passengers in December 2024, marking a 7.1 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The airline group’s overall passenger capacity rose by 7.1 per cent, while passenger traffic increased by 6.0 per cent. SIA recorded a passenger load factor (PLF) of 88.4 per cent, while its low-cost subsidiary, Scoot, achieved 89.2 per cent. The results brought total passenger numbers for 2024 to 39 million, a 12.7 per cent rise from 2023.

Cargo volumes also saw significant growth, with a 13.6 per cent increase in cargo loads compared to December 2023. The expansion outpaced the 11.3 per cent increase in cargo capacity. SIA attributed the higher loads to seasonal demand, strong pre-Lunar New Year trade, and China’s decision to lift its ban on Australian live rock lobster imports. The group’s cargo load factor rose to 53.6 per cent, a one percentage point increase from the previous year.

During the month, Scoot introduced new passenger services to Phu Quoc in Vietnam, while Singapore Airlines resumed seasonal direct flights to Sapporo, Japan. By the end of December 2024, the airline group’s passenger network spanned 129 destinations across 36 countries and territories, with Singapore Airlines servicing 80 destinations and Scoot operating flights to 72 locations. The cargo network covered 133 destinations in 37 countries and territories.

Singapore Airlines continues to expand its Australian operations, offering 179 weekly flights from seven cities. In January, the airline scheduled 35 weekly flights from Sydney, 35 from Melbourne, and 28 from Perth. Other Australian destinations include Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, and Darwin.

The airline was named among Fortune Magazine’s 50 most admired companies in 2024 and received multiple accolades, including the World’s Best International Airline award from Travel + Leisure USA and top honours at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. It also continues to enhance its customer offerings through services such as the Kris+ rewards program, which expanded to over 170 brands in Sydney and Melbourne.

Singapore Airlines said it remains focused on strengthening its global connectivity and service excellence amid the evolving aviation landscape.
