Virgin Australia domestic passenger numbers fell 1.1 per cent in May compared to May 2010, the airline has reported, with capacity (in ASKs) trimmed by 0.9 per cent, although RPKs (up 3.8 per cent) and load factor (up 3.6 points) both improved for the month.
Traffic in RPKs for its Pacific Blue and V Australia operations was up by 19.2 per cent in May, with capacity (in ASKs) up 9.6 per cent, and load factor up six points. But passenger numbers were down by 10.3 per cent (due largely to Pacific Blue’s withdrawal from the NZ domestic market).
In all the airline carried 1,289,639 domestic and 193,084 international passengers in May.
