TWU fined for illegal Qantas strike

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) will have to pay Qantas $707,000 in compensation for snap strikes by baggage handlers at four airports in 2009.

The federal court on July 22 ruled that the TWU pay Qantas the compensation, plus a $20,000 fine, with union officials fined a further $18,000, for the strike action, which it had earlier found to be illegal.
