Cargolux has announced that it will “reject” delivery of the first two Boeing 747-8 Freighters planned for September 19 and 21, citing “unresolved contractual issues with Boeing”.
While neither party has commented publicly on the exact nature of the dispute, reports have suggested that fuel efficiency issues may to be blame.
“The performance problems were well known and they were supposed to be addressed by Boeing and GE,” consultancy firm AVITAS’s senior vice president Adam Pilarski told Reuters.
Caroglux has warned that it could be forced to look at alternative freighter aircraft if its dispute with Boeing is not resolved soon.
“In the event that the issues cannot be resolved in a timely manner, Cargolux will source alternative capacity to fully meet customer demand and expectations ahead of the traditional high season,” the company said in a statement.
