Mixed passenger results for Melbourne Airport in August

written by WOFA | September 21, 2011

Melbourne Airport has recorded a 11.5 percent increase in international passenger numbers for the month of August, but a four per cent drop in domestic figures.

Robust international growth saw an additional 54,715 international  passengers arrive in Melbourne when compared to August last year, taking total international passengers numbers to 531,842 for the month. However, domestic passenger numbers fell 82,008 compared to the same period last year.

“Our August passenger figures have undoubtedly been impacted by the interruption to Tiger’s domestic operations and the process of rebuilding their domestic services,” Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said of the disappointing domestic results.

“Our international growth continues to be driven by Asia. Passport holders from Indonesia, the Philippines and China all grew by more than 30 per cent.”
