Team CLiMA from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology were runners-up in this year’s Airbus Fly Your Ideas global competition, winning a prize of €15,000 for their proposal to develop aircraft fuelled by a blend of sustainably produced liquefied biomethane and liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG).
A team of students from the University of São Paulo in Brazil claimed the top prize of €30,000 with their proposal for a luggage loading and unloading system for aircraft cargo compartments to reduce the workload of airport baggage handlers with an air cushion solution.
Supported by UNESCO, Airbus Fly Your Ideas is a biennial competition that challenges students worldwide to develop ideas for a more sustainable aviation industry. This year saw more than 600 teams submit proposals responding to one of six challenges set by Airbus for aviation in the 21st century.
The winning teams will be at the Paris Airshow this week showing off their concepts.
