The Indonesian air force has begun evaluating options to replace its ageing Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II fighters, according to a report by that country’s official news agency Antara.
The news report quotes Indonesian defence minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro as saying that five or six different aircraft types are being considered for the 16 aircraft requirement, which could be included in Indonesia’s next five-year defence plan.
As well as F-5s the Indonesian air force operates small fleets of F-16A/Bs and Su-27/30 Flankers.
