The Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) has named a former senior manager at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as its new chief executive.
Mike Higgins replaces former RAAA chief executive Paul Tyerll, who stepped down in October.
While his most recent role was a senior manager at CASA, Higgins’ career has also included working as a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, commercial pilot, maintenance organisation manager and airline general manager.
RAAA chairman Jim Davis said Higgins would bring a “tremendous wealth of experience” as chief executive, adding he was “one of the architects of regional aviation security regulations”.
“His breadth of experience will serve RAAA members well in many areas but will be particularly valuable as we work with the government and the regulator to solve the huge problems caused by recently introduced legislation and participate in the development of new regulations”, Davis said in a statement on Friday.
