Airservices Australia and the RAAF have signed a Joint Operational Concept to develop and implement harmonised civil and military air traffic management systems, which also promises to save millions of dollars.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will align procurement processes on a range of air navigation and air traffic control systems to replace ageing infrastructure as part of their equipment upgrades over the next five to seven years. Despite the harmonisation, the government says that the RAAF’s unique operational requirements will be maintained.
“By purchasing and developing compatible equipment and technology together, the RAAF and Airservices will provide better value for money and potentially save taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Transport Minister Anthony Albanese, adding that it delivered on a promise put forward in the government’s Aviation White Paper, which was released in December last year.
