Air Niugini has ordered two Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft and optioned two to add to its fleet of previous model Dash 8 turboprops.
“The Q400 NextGen aircraft follows in the footsteps of a long line of robust and reliable de Havilland and Bombardier turboprops that have served our airline very well over the years,” said Wasantha Kumarasiri, CEO of Air Niugini. “The aircraft’s ‘hot and high’ capabilities and its ability to operate on shorter runways are especially important for our route network, while its speed, fuel efficiency, low emissions and comfortable cabin were also key factors in our selection.”
Based on list prices, the firm order is valued at US$60m (A$69m), or US$92m (A$105m) if the options are exercised.
Air Niugini currently operates two Dash 8-100s, three -200s and three 50 seat -300s, predominately on domestic services.
