Jetstar boosts Hobart schedules for summer

written by WOFA | November 10, 2009

Jetstar has announced that it will operate additional flights to Hobart and Launceston over the summer season to cater for additional demand.

Between January 2-31 and March 1-27, the airline will operate three additional services each week on the Brisbane-Launceston route, which will bring it up to a daily service during those periods. The airline is also scheduled to operate an additional three weekly services on the Melbourne-Hobart route from December 18- January 31 and again from March 1 to March 27.

“As a major contributor to Tasmanian tourism with our high frequency, low fare services into and from the state we remain committed to support the industry during its most important annual travel period,” said Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan.

Jetstar’s increase comes weeks after Tiger Airways announced that it will double its frequencies on the Melbourne-Hobart to twice daily from February 5. With Tiger also announcing increases on a number of other routes, including its entry onto the Melbourne-Brisbane route, it is expected that competition between the two low cost carriers will continue to heat up over the next year.
