More Embraers for Virgin Blue?

written by WOFA | January 29, 2010

Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey has said that the airline has been involved in talks with Embraer as it looks to place an order for up to 50 aircraft later this year.

“We are in the market for planes,” Godfrey told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Singapore. “We’ve got a whole bunch of airplanes coming out of lease over the next two to three years and we are looking to take some more, including from Embraer.”

Godfrey added that the airline was looking to replace 30-50 of the 68 aircraft in its fleet as they come off lease over the next few years.

In a previous interview with Australian Aviation, Godfrey said that as well as additional Boeing 737s, the airline could also look at ordering twin-aisle aircraft for medium haul routes as well as turboprops to serve some regional routes. It is expected that an order will be placed before Godfrey steps down as the airline’s CEO in December.
