The federal government has announced that it will provide $193,000 to help refurbish the runway at Carnarvon Airport in northern WA.
Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said that the funding would help to minimise damage to aircraft using the airport and increase passenger and staff safety at the airport. The funds have been given to the Shire of Carnarvon from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.
Skywest is currently the only carrier operating scheduled flights to Carnarvon, with services to Perth and Geraldton operated by Fokker 50 turboprops.
