Airservices Australia has installed a temporary air traffic control tower trackside for the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide to provide traffic separation during the four day event.
Staffed by Airservices controllers from the Adelaide Airport control tower, the event tower will manage hundreds of helicopter movements and high-speed flying displays by the RAAF Roulettes and an FA-18 Hornet. Overall, nearly 1000 race-related aircraft movements are expected to be handled by the temporary control tower.
Airservices says that the temporary ATC tower is required due to the proximity of the event to Adelaide International Airport and will ensure separation between Clipsal 500 aerial activities and regular services into Adelaide airport are maintained at all times and that passenger and cargo services are unaffected.
