The Indian government has asked bidders for its 126 aircraft MMRCA fighter contest to resubmit their bids for another year after it revealed it would not meet a two year deadline of April 28 since the original bids were submitted to select a winner.
“The companies have been informed by the government that they can extend their bid for one more year,” Indian Defence Ministry spokesman Sitanshu Kar was reported as saying by Bloomberg. “They have the option of increasing or decreasing their price,” he said, adding that it “highlights that this is by far the biggest, most complex arms purchase India has ever undertaken.”
The bidders, comprising Boeing with its F/A-18E/F, Lockheed Martin’s F-16I, Saab Gripen, Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale and the MAPO MiG-35, have all sent aircraft to India for testing and trials.
