Air New Zealand has released its May operational statistics, showing that the carrier experienced a 3.9 per cent increase in passengers for the month, although yields were lower than the same time last year.
The increase in passengers came from increases on domestic and long haul services to North America and the UK, which increased by 6.0 and 4.8 per cent respectively. Demand, in RPKs, increased by 1.8 per cent, while a 0.7 per cent reduction in capacity saw load factor increase by 1.9 percentage points to 77.6 per cent.
The airline also noted that yields were down 7.9 per cent across its operations compared to May 2009. This was led by long haul yields, which were down by 12 per cent, while short haul yields decreased by six per cent.
