A Boeing MD-11 Freighter operated by Lufthansa Cargo has been involved in an accident while landing in Riyadh on July 27.

The aircraft, registered D-ALCQ, was operating a flight from Frankfurt to Hong Kong via Riyadh and Sharjah with 80 tonnes of freight on board. According to some reports, the aircraft’s fuselage fractured while landing at Riyadh, while a subsequent fire destroyed it. The two pilots on board the aircraft were able to escape the blaze using emergency escape slides and are currently in hospital.

Lufthansa Cargo says that it has dispatched experts to Riyadh to assist with an investigation into the accident and will cooperate fully with it. The cause of the fracture is currently unknown.
