New fire control facility launched at Mackay

written by WOFA | August 12, 2010

Mackay Airport’s Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) service has become the latest in the country to receive a digital upgrade to its fire control centre as part of a wider investment by Airservices Australia in ARFF equipment across Australia.

The new digital system replaces a variety of stand-alone analogue communication and incident management systems with a single, integrated system. Airservices says that it provides remote monitoring capability to improve efficiency, safety, and lower training and maintenance costs.

“It incorporates the very latest technology, integrated communications and incident management resources to give Airservices firefighters the best tools to manage any incident,” said Airservices chief fire officer Peter Smith. “The new technology will ensure that in the unlikely event of an incident anywhere on the airport, Airservices is well placed to respond within minutes.”
