Skywest has announced that it will commence a cadet pilot training scheme in partnership with Altara Training and Ansett Aviation Training.

“We are very excited about the program at Skywest and the opportunity that it will provide to local Western Australians to become involved in a [locally] based company,” said executive chairman Jeff Chatfield in a statement.

Skywest says it will open its first cadet pilot intake during the end of the year through Melbourne based Altara. The airline will offer training places to candidates with little or no flying training experience who meet its requirements for aptitude, attitude and motivation, with cadets expected to progress on to the airline’s Fokker 50 fleet upon completion of their training with Altara and Ansett Aviation Training.
