Launceston Airport has recorded a one per cent growth in passenger traffic for the first quarter of the 2010/2011 financial year.

Over the three months, 268,000 passengers passed through the airport compared to 266,000 over the same quarter in the previous year. Despite the low rate of growth, Launceston Airport general manager Pamela Graham said that the growth during the traditionally low winter season showed the resilience of the tourism market in northern Tasmania.

“This confidence is reflected in Jetstar’s recent announcement that it will expand its services to Launceston by 40 per cent, introducing new daily Melbourne and Sydney services in December this year,” she said, adding that Virgin Blue will also add additional services to Melbourne in November.
