RAAF Hawk flying “on hold”

The RAAF has temporarily suspended flying its 33 BAE Systems Hawk lead-in fighters after a 79SQN aircraft experienced an as yet undisclosed technical problem on Monday.

According to a Department of Defence media statement issued on October 13, a “Hawk aircraft at RAAF Base Pearce experienced a technical fault while taxiing before takeoff on Monday 11 October, causing the aircraft to shutdown.”

Continues the statement, “As a safety precaution Hawk flying at both RAAF Base Pearce and RAAF Base Williamtown is on hold pending further investigation.”

The statement does not provide further detail of the incident.
