Emirates SkyCargo recently operated its longest ever non-stop cargo service when it flew a load of valuable race horses from Sydney to Stewart International Airport in upstate New York in a Boeing 777-200F.

The 17.5 hour flight eclipsed the previous longest flight of 16.8 hours from Dubai to Houston. “This landmark flight is especially significant for operations in countries such as Australia,” said Greg Johnson, Emirates’ cargo manager Australia. “Being located some distance from many of the world’s key markets, a high importance is placed on range capability.”

Emirates says the cargo of horses flown by EK4931 was potentially worth more than the aircraft itself!
