Funding released for airport ETD machines

The federal government has approved $837,000 in funding for 20 Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) machine at four Australian airports.

The machines will be installed at Brisbane (eight), Perth, Townsville and Gold Coast airports (four each), to enhance security’s ability to detect traces of explosives on people and objects.

The new machines are part of the government’s $200 million Strengthening Aviation Security Initiative aimed at supporting Australia’s domestic and international aviation security regime against emerging threats.
