A Qantas A380 bound for London has diverted to Dubai after it was forced to shut down one of its engines when an oil indicator warning light came on during the flight.

QF31 landed safely just after noon AEDT, roughly nine hours after it departed Singapore, the airline reported. A spokesperson said a problem with the number four engine forced pilots to shut it down about 90 minutes after takeoff. The 258 passengers onboard were informed of the problem and none were injured, Qantas said.

The airline said engineers will investigate the problem.

The incident comes exactly a year after a mid-air explosion forced a Qantas A380 carrying 459 passengers to make an emergency landing in Singapore.  It also coincided with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce’s appearance before a Senate committee where he faced heated questions over his decision to ground the Qantas fleet over the weekend in the midst of a labour dispute.
