The Jetstar Group has marked reaching 100 aircraft across its fleet with the unveiling of a specially-painted A320.

The newest of the airline’s Sharklet-equipped A320s features 132 people from across the five Jetstar branded airlines doing the ‘Jetstar star jump’. The aircraft – VH-VFN – will operate on domestic routes in Australia and will visit New Zealand, Singapore and Japan.

Jetstar Group chief executive officer Jayne Hrdlicka said the milestone was only possible because of the 400,000 passengers who choose to fly with the Jetstar Group each week.

“With the benefit of our common fleet, we’re able to carry more people, to more places, more often than any other low cost airline in Australia,” Hrdlicka said.

“This aircraft also celebrates the huge achievement of carrying more than 100 million passengers in our nine-year history.”

The Jetstar Group now has three aircraft fitted with the fuel saving Sharklets – one each for Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and now Jetstar Australia and New Zealand. The Jetstar fleet, comprising 52 in operation with Jetstar Australia and NZ, 18 with Jetstar Asia, 10 with Jetstar Japan and five with Jetstar Pacific, operates up to 3,000 flights a week to around 60 destinations and carried more than 20 million people during the 2011/12 financial year.
