Macquarie launches helicopter leasing business

written by WOFA | July 16, 2013

The Macquarie Group has announced it’s getting into the business of helicopters leasing, launching Macquarie Rotorcraft Leasing to support growing demand worldwide for commercial helicopters servicing offshore oil and gas, medical transport, search and rescue, and the executive transport markets.

The new business, based in San Francisco, will ride on the back of Macquarie’s experience in commercial aviation and rail leasing, Macquarie’s Stephen Cook saying: “We believe this market sector is a logical and attractive extension of our current leasing offerings.”

Macquarie Rotorcraft Leasing has a strong pedigree in the aviation sector, with former Sikorsky president Jeffrey Pino taking on the role of CEO. He will be supported by James Clarke as chief operating officer, whose last role was chief financial officer of Air Lease Corporation.

“I am excited to lead this new venture, one that will bring liquidity and financial flexibility to commercial customers,” said Pino, “With the resources of Macquarie and what I believe is the strongest helicopter management team in the business, we are well positioned to provide competitive proposals to customers worldwide and we look forward to renewing those relationships with this platform.”
