Melbourne Airport has successfully implemented the new SITA AirportConnect Open passenger services platform following the successful introduction of SITA passenger common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks and automated bag drops.

The new platform will power all 275 check-in counter and boarding gate work stations at the airport’s international terminal.

“Over the next two years Melbourne Airport is investing $1 billion in a development plan which includes the transformation of our international terminal,” airport CEO Chris Woodruff said in a statement. “By working together with SITA and using technology in new ways we will be able to improve our processes to make the journey smoother for passengers and the airlines that serve them.”

The CUSS upgrade is part of Melbourne’s efforts to conform to the IATA Fast Travel initiative, which seeks to improve passenger processing and the overall passenger experience through innovation, automation and processing efficiency, and is expected to be fully rolled out by the end of February.
