Garuda Indonesia has become the 20th member of the SkyTeam alliance of airlines.
The move adds 40 destinations to the alliance’s network, and sees Jakarta become its second major hub in the south east Asia. Vietnam Airlines is also a member of the alliance.
“Garuda’s entry into the alliance will give its customers access to SkyTeam’s 1,064 destinations that cover more than 90 per cent of the most relevant traffic flows in the world,” SkyTeam managing director Michael Wisbrun said. “Garuda strengthens our presence throughout the Asia-Pacific region for our 588 million global passengers.”
